| Vertical Wet Vent System - Plumbing Isometric Diagram.... |
What is a "Wet Vent"? Where do I install vent? Plumbing Cost?
Simply put a Wet Vent is a vent that serves as a drain and a vent at the same time. Full Detail: A wet vent is the vertical piping between any two consecutive inlet levels. Both wet vented section shall be a minimum of one pipe size larger than the required minimum waste pipe size of the upper plumbing fixture served. The wet vent section vertically must be increased 1 pipe size larger, but in no case should it be smaller than 2" in diameter.
A typical wet vent rough in will look like this plumbing diagram. By viewing it on an isometric plumbing diagram it really points out what is really going on. The portion between the bath tub inlet and water closet outlet is the wet vented section. Does this make sense? Let me further explain:
Wet venting is limited to vertical drainage piping receiving the discharge from a trap arm of 1 and two fixtures. If serving a vent it can not exceed four fixtures. Keep in mind that wet venting of fixtures must be on the same floor level, provided that fixtures with a continuous vent discharge into a wet vent be within the same story as the wet vented fixtures. No wet vent's total developed length shall exceed six feet. In short don't wet vent multi level fixtures and hope that you will pass inspections. A multi level wet vent can be done by wet venting on each story seperately.
Why would you use a wet vent plumbing system?
The answer is simple, it saves on space and it is very cost efficient especially in this tight market today. When looking to install plumbing everyone should take into consideration that plumbing can be roughed in different ways and with different methods. Code, Cost and Labor have a great impact on output.
Always check with your local plumbing inspector, plumbing official or the plumbing administrative authority before attempting a rough in of a wet vent, make sure that you have the right tools to get the job done the first time!
